Halverstown v North County - Sun 6th May 2018

North County win by 7 wickets

This was a game of two halves and reflects our continuing pursuit of a decent

batting performance. I won the toss and elected to bat on a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately we crumbled and could only muster 98. Top scorer was extras followed by Sahab (19) and David (14). Paolo who thinks a defensive shot is a six was caught on the boundary by the best catch of the season. It was that sort of day.

However, where our batting has been poor with a few notable exceptions our fielding/bowling has been exceptional. Defending 98 is not a realistic proposition but we did our best. Five of our bowlers went for under 3 an over and we dominated the second half for a lot of the time. Sahab (2 for 19: economy 2.4) and Vishnu (2 for 22:economy 2.8) topped the bowling figures. Good supporting performances from Neville, the Threadgolds and Ahbi backed this up. The ground fielding was really good and exceptional catches were taken by Abhi and Vishnu. However in the 35th over they managed to get the necessary runs despite a few wobbles along the way.

If we could only have posted enough runs I feel we could have dominated this season but it was not to be. On the other hand this is a happy group of players who enjoy playing together and in the final analysis that is what counts. I think that we have faced triumph and disaster and treated these 2 impostors just the same. Cricket, friendship and sportsmanship have been the winner.

Thank you to Niall, our covid officer and Des who umpired and scored.

Our final match of the season is against Lucan 2 at St Catherines Park on Sunday 5th September.
