Halverstown 2 V Swords 5 - Mon 5th May 2025

Swords win by 6 wickets

For H2s first game of the season and my first match as captain, how best to put into words. Stats can only say so much so I’ll leave it to our 12 man Edgar Allan Poe,

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,

Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

    But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,

    And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “wicket down’’

This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “wicket down”

            Merely this and nothing more.

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,

“Doubtless,” said I, “what it utters is its only stock and stole

    Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster

    Followed fast and followed faster till his victims one burden bowled

Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore.

Dispite the gloom there were still positives, a strong all round bowling and fielding performance, excellent bowling from Tanzeel and a team willing to fight to the end. It was also great to see players staying on after to practice and help out.

We look to the league at the weekend with the visit of Rush 4. Onwards and upwards.
