ETX Based Routing Module in
Wireless Networks

In this project we develop an ETX routing metric module using cross layer approach. It is developed as a plug-in  module which can be used for routing protocols of wireless networks.

Objective

  • Efficient calculation of the link loss ratios between nodes.

  •   Calculate the ETX metric with all categories of routing protocols i.e. both  reactive and proactive routing protocols in wireless networks.

  •  To improve throughput, average end-end delay and normalized routing load   of the network

Proposed System

An ETX metric module incorporates the following:

  • Effect of link loss ratios

  •  Asymmetry in the loss ratios between the two directions of each link

  • Use of the cross layer approach, where the information of the Data Link layer is used at the Network layer for routing.

Conclusion

  • We have been able to implement ETX metric successfully in three protocols namely AODV,TORA and HWMP(PROACTIVE and REACTIVE).

  • Through the result analysis done in form of X-graph, bar graph and line graph, performance of AODV-ETX,TORA-ETX and HWMP-ETXis better than AODV,TORA and HWMP.

  •  Hence we conclude that ETX approach is successfully used to route packets in the wireless network.

The solution was published in  the International Journal of Innovative Technology and Creative Engineering (ISSN: 2045-8711), August 2013 Issue Vol.3
