Young Singers is a dynamic community choral program offered to youth in the Durham Region under the direction of founder Anna Lynn Murphy, and accompanied by Lois Craig. Over the past twenty-four years, the organization has evolved into four choirs ranging in age from 6 to 20. The fostering of creativity through music and positive role models has empowered hundreds of young people. The ensuing life skills and cultural awareness enrich their daily lives.
Young Singers perform regularly in the GTA and the Durham Region, and have recorded three CDs. Their recent tour of Ireland in March 2015 included performances in Athenry, Limerick and Minane Bridge. They were also thrilled to perform at the Cork School of Music and at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin which was attended by our Canadian Ambassador to Ireland, Mr. Kevin Vickers.
Renowned as Durham’s choral ambassadors, these award winning singers have also traveled to England, the Maritimes, British Columbia, throughout Ontario, and taken the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville! In March of 2013, they performed as Canadian cultural ambassadors in China, travelling to Beijing, Shanghai and the coastal city of Qinhuangdao. Their performances included collaborating with an arts school and being featured on National Television.
Proudly representing a membership of over 100 talented young people, Young Singers is looking forward to our 25th season in 2016-2017 as they celebrate “Excellence in life through excellence in music!“
