Hummer used to make a huge monolithic SUV, with a massive 6.2 litre V8 393 horsepower engine, which it called the “H2”. Today there is a new H2 on the block and this one is a powering its way through the T20 Cup! Well, it has now won two games at least. Halverstown 2, commonly called H2, drove through to another big win against a team admittedly comprising a number of Adamstown’s Development Squad, but did so without having to put its foot down too hard on the pedal.
We played at Crokagh Park on their small second pitch and, at the request of our opponents, bowled just from one end because of losing balls in rather-too-near ditch. Adamstown won the toss and put us in to bat- when we finally got going once they has located a pink ball . David Braithwaite opened with Stuart Conroy and played a very well judged innings to carry his bat and finish with a superb 83 not out. David tried to accelerate late on and go through the gears but fell a little short of his century. Stuart Conroy, Ger O’Shea and Stuart Hayes all chipped in with runs but the star supporting role was Abhi. He smashed 50 off just 19 balls and in one sensational over, the 5th, scoring 28 off P.Varma with two 6s and four 4s. Pathak’s 9th over brought 21 runs which allowed the brakes to be applied gently as the team throttled back and cruised to its total of 206, with Paolo Rosa adding a useful 13 not out at the end. Rajesh, their captain, took two wickets and Dawada one, but opening bowler S.Paul bowled very tidily also.
Most of Adamstown’s batsmen added a few runs but none managed to stay at the crease long enough to establish any real resistance to a strong bowling line up from H2. Two wickets apiece for Kevin Hodson and Abhi and one for Brian McAllister, Paolo and Ger were all taken without conceding too many runs but the best figures were for Stuart Hayes with 2 for 1 off his single over! The fielding was good on a small pitch with a superb catch taken by Ger, a good one by Abhi and a very strange one by myself: Kevin nearly took a great diving catch for caught-bowled, but the ball looped up off his hand and fell neatly for me to clutch. There were also two caught-bowled wickets, a stumping and a run-out to complete a most satisfactory day in the field and a comprehensive win. Thanks are due again to Jon Kirby for his excellent umpiring.
