Halverstown trying to avoid a Gorey finish
Last weekend, Leinster the league leaders took a huge step towards lifting the league title, beating Gorey by 7 wickets. At the same time, Halverstown were beating Pembroke in Sydney Parade in a rip roaring, high scoring game, by 4 wickets. The defeat to Leinster, put the final nail into the Gorey coffin as far as league winning aspirations go. For Halverstown, this game is a must win. A win, with bonus points, will close the gap on Leinster, knowing they still have to play one another in 2 weeks time.
Getting back to this weeks game, when the sides met earlier in the season at Brannockstown, it was Halverstown that won a close game by 25 runs. Ashmore, Wardrop and a half century from Greene gave them a great platform to build towards 185. Bowlers Case and Naru took two wickets each and restricted Gorey to 160/7 in reply, with Norman making a fine 62 Not Out.
It's a 12:30 start in Courtown on Sunday. Forecast is around 16c and some showers are expected, but we hope for a full game.
Also, taking place on Sunday in Brannockstown, is the visit of the Leprechauns to play the Halverstown Oaks. It's always a pleasure to welcome these lads to our club. Last years game, ended in a draw. The format is a timed game, which is a little different to traditional Taverners games. The game is due to start on Sunday at 1pm, and all are welcome.
