Match 1: H2 vs Tyrrelstown 5
Halverstown 2 returned to T20 cricket with a nail-biter against Tyrrelstown 5. Despite the weather turning gloomy, Sean and Chaitanya’s 57-run opening partnership set a solid foundation. Rain slowed our innings, but Junaid’s unbeaten 43 led us to 129/5.
Our bowlers performed brilliantly, with Matthew’s tight spell and Ahsan’s early strike. After another rain delay, a key catch by Pushn turned the game. With 8 runs needed in the final over, debutant Arun’s hat-trick clinched a dramatic victory. Sharp fielding and some dubious umpiring made for an exciting comeback win.
Match 2: H2 vs Merrion 7
Picture this: we lose the toss, and the Merrion 7 captain, with a twinkle in his eye, asks us to bat first. Challenge accepted! We ended up with a respectable 148/7. Junaid dazzled with a maiden fifty, racking up 59 runs. Sean Conroy, Avanish Patel, and Jim Hodgson chipped in with 22, 15, and 15 runs, respectively. We put our game faces on and restricted Merrion 7 to 120/8, winning by 28 runs. Ajesh went full wizard mode with 3 wickets, Avanish snagged 2, and Matthew, Ahsan, and Avtar each nabbed 1.
Double Header: H2 vs Leinster 6 and Carlow 3
First up, Leinster 6. They won the toss and decided to bat first, probably dreaming of glory. They managed 106/8, thanks to Avtar’s 3 wickets, Ahsan and Avanish’s 2 each, and Des Drumm’s crucial wicket of their top scorer. We chased… well, sort of. We fell short at 99 runs, losing by 7. Avtar, Tojo, and Shekhar were the only notable batters with 30, 20, and 10 runs. Let’s call it a warm-up for the next match.
Then came Carlow 3, and oh boy, did we put on a show. Avanish cracked a fifty, Sean played a steady hand with 41, and then Chaitanya and Muhsin went ballistic with 43 and 24 runs at a strike rate of over 186. We set a daunting 189 runs. Carlow tried to keep up but could only manage 152/5, losing by 36 runs. Avanish took 2 wickets, and Junaid, Chaitanya, and Des chipped in with 1 each. Des, our stand-in captain due to my injury, led us to the semi-finals with the finesse of a maestro.
